In the winter of 2011 as an effort to get in front of the eight ball, I decided to train for the 2011 Pikes Peak Ascent. This was my first race series. In fact, it was my first race ever. Was I nervous? Yes. Was I going to let that stop me? No way! I saw it as an excellent way to prepare for my hunting season of chasing big game across the Colorado Rocky Mountains. So, I signed up and trained my butt off. (Check out my "Pikes Peak Ascent: Check!" post that documents the completion of this task.)
While I still have dreams of completing the Pikes Peak Marathon someday, I am currently training for my second Peak Ascent race. On August 17, 2013, I'll be making my second trek up the mountain in pursuit of another completion medal. The timing is perfect because only a week or two after the race, hunting season begins. After racing to the top of a mountain, carrying an elk off the mountain doesn't sound so bad. Bring it on! I'll be ready for the challenge.
STRONG TRAINING = STRONG HUNTS
