Turkey is Done

My turkey season has come to an end and unfortunately the turkey won this spring. I so wanted to title this last turkey post something like "Thwack! Turkey DRT." However, it didn't end that way for me. We had a good time trying but, they simply didn't cooperate with us.

Last weekend we had our last attempt at arrowing a turkey. Saturday we decided to hunt a piece of land just below my parents property. We knew those darn turkeys were in the area because he had been hearing / seeing them in the evenings on the section of land adjacent to an area open for hunting. In other words, the turkey knew they were safe on the private land and were roosting at night on this piece of property we weren't allowed to hunt on. They were taunting us. So, the idea was to wake up early and see if we could call them in for a shot on the land that was open for hunting. It didn't work. Someone beat us to the hunting spot, so we ended up driving around for 30 minutes trying to find a new section of land. Ugh. I was not a happy camper.

Anyway, we had a great time over all and had a few hens come in to about 10 yards which was kinda fun. Oh, and I almost forgot - we saw a naked dude sunning himself in an open pasture. Yep - not something you see every day while turkey hunting. My husband yelled at the naked dude to go put some clothes on. We had quite a few laughs about it all - we made fun of him all the way down the mountain.

I'm so ready for summer to begin. I plan on doing a little fishing, a little skiing, a little sun tanning (with my swimsuit on of course!) and a lot of shooting my bow in preparation deer / elk season. I just got my elk tags in the mail!! Let the fun begin.

The Farmer Blow

Phew - what a weekend! The husband and I attempted to Turkey hunt on Saturday and Sunday and had a great time of wandering through the woods. We saw deer, elk, porcupine, grouse, hens, antelope, but no turkeys of the male gender. You know, the ones you can shoot with a spring turkey tag.

I thought for sure that our luck would change since we saw a hen first thing as we were pulling in on Saturday. Plus I forgot my camera - a sure sign that I would need to take a picture of some momentous occasion.

The weekend wasn't a total loss though. There were some precious memories made and I learned a new trick. My husband taught me how to farmer blow my nose. If you aren't familiar with this technique, let me briefly elaborate. When the tissue becomes a rare commodity when hunting / hiking in the woods there are other measures that can be taken to alleviate the pressure of a snot filled nose. You simply put pressure on one nostril with the pinch of your index finger, lean over in order to avoid the expelled content from finding it's way onto your clothes, and blow. The snot goes flying. Your stuffy nose is cleared and you can now breathe better. It works like a charm! However, I can't believe that I found myself doing this. It is REALLY un-lady like. My husband kept shaking his head all the way down the trail, mumbling under his breath...

"I can't believe I taught my wife how to farmer blow!"

And the next words were, "I'm going to write about this one on my blog!" To which I responded, "Not if I get to it first!" I think it is much better to tell on yourself than have someone else do it for you.

So, I confess.

I now know to farmer blow and am not afraid to do so in the woods.

Small Accomplishments

I cleaned my closet today. It is a small accomplishment in the grand scheme of things, I know. However, it just feels good knowing that I'm starting the week off with an organized closet.

It seems like life has been crazy lately. I can't seem to slow down time or control things like I would like to. It snowed today. So much for April showers bringing may flowers. I took a pregnancy test yesterday. Let's just say that I've resorted to buying the cheap ones now. There was only one line, therefore, I had a glass of wine tonight and cleaned the closet.

I'm honestly not depressed or anything like that.. just feeling like being a bit honest. Sometimes in life you can't control your circumstances, but that is okay. I know that ultimately God is in control but it is hard to let go of the reigns sometimes. So, you control the things you can and learn to let go of the things that really matter, the things that need someone bigger and stronger than you to handle. I cleaned my closet tonight and think it looks pretty darn good:

Now, if I can just fill my turkey tag next weekend.
